Science communication training at the University of Saskatchewan
Exciting news!
Tali Hoffman and I are pleased to announce that we’re offering a science communication training course (Foundations of Science Communication) as a microcredential with the University of Saskatchewan (Usask).
The course is online with facilitated sessions over Zoom. It runs through Usask’s School of Environment and sustainability (SENS).
What will I learn?
Communicating your research to the right people, at the right times, and in the right ways, ensures that it has value and impact beyond academia and that it supports positive change in policy, practice, and behaviour.
By the end of the course, you will be able to think strategically about science communication, tailor content to the specific needs of target audiences, and make science understandable for non-specialists.
We also focus on media training to equip researchers with the skills to do media interviews and get their work out into the public domain.

What’s a microcredential?
A microcredential is a short course offered by a university that typically focuses on professional development. It provides recognised proof of the learning outcomes a learner has achieved following a short learning experience, according to transparent standards, requirements, and assessment.
USask microcredentials focus on competencies that are relevant and connected to what employers and community partners need. The USask microcredentials are shorter than other university credentials but still have learning outcomes consistent with university level study.
When does the course run?
The course runs from 21 March to 22 April 2022. Registration is open ‘til 4 March and space is limited.
