Editorial support for Deltares: Water as Leverage Guidance

When properly managed, water is a source of peace and prosperity—the lifeblood of agriculture and a socioeconomic driver for billions of people. Water can bring us together to do better; it holds a special place across cultures.

Water is essential. Yet, globally, we are experiencing multiple water-related crises, with climate change exacerbating floods and droughts.

We need urban water resilience projects that transform how we manage this precious resource — innovative projects that are transformative and inclusive.

The Water as Leverage (WaL) approach to project development aims to create transformative and inclusive projects to enhance urban water resilience. Rooted in the experiences and lessons learned from the WaL programme, which has been active since 2017, this approach addresses the complexity of urban water challenges with a comprehensive and integrative framework.

In 2024, the independent knowledge institute Deltares, in the Netherlands, contracted Human Element Communications to provide editorial support on the flagship report, Advancing Urban Water Resilience: a Water as Leverage Guidance for transformative and inclusive project development.

Brendon Bosworth worked closely with the Deltares team to ensure the report had a strong narrative and met the highest editorial standards.
