New offering: Grant writing support for academics

In 2024, Human Element Communications added a new service to its portfolio: grant-writing support for academics. We designed this offering to help busy academics complete their grant applications by the deadline.

This new service pairs the expertise of writing coach Faith Bosworth with the editorial skills of Brendon Bosworth.

Our first client was Danaë Metaxa, Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania, who shared some wonderful feedback on the process.

What we did:

  • Created a structured work plan based on the client’s needs, with weekly writing goals and check-in meetings, to ensure the grant application was ready for the deadline.

  • Provided editorial feedback at various stages in the grant-writing process, paying attention to best practices for solutions-oriented science communication.

  • Copy edited the final grant application to ensure the document met the highest editorial standards.

Client testimonial

Working with the Bosworths turned an otherwise solitary individual effort into what felt like a collaborative project (and a fun one, at that!). Although I had to do the writing myself, Faith and Brendon aided me in structuring the overall process, tracking day-to-day progress, and editing all my grant’s materials. The structure Faith helped me craft gave me a daily feeling of purpose and direction as well as the accountability that was critical to getting this important work done in time — with time to spare, actually.
