Science communication training and op-ed writing workshop for MLiA
In early 2024, I ran a three-week science communication training programme with Dr Tali Hoffman for PhD students at The South African Research Chair: Mineral Law in Africa, which is based at the University of Cape Town and chaired by Professor Hanri Mostert.
The training focused on writing and pitching op-eds to news publications.
As part of the training, students wrote an op-ed on a topic of their choice.
I facilitated a group writing session, guiding the students through the process of starting their op-ed drafts in a calm and supportive space. Read more about the facilitated writing session here.
I also provided editorial feedback on the op-eds.
The students will publish their op-eds on the MLiA blog, increasing visibility and public engagement.
This was the third training Tali and I have run for MLiA. Previous participants have published their op-eds in publications such as the Daily Maverick.
