Laying the Foundations for Transformative Urban Interventions in Emerging Economies

I worked as lead author and editor on this report for UN-Habitat and the Global Future Cities Programme.

Under the Prosperity Fund’s Global Future Cities Programme (GFCP), the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK FCO) collaborated with UN-Habitat to promote sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous development and growth in 19 cities across 10 countries worldwide. Through identification and definition of transformative interventions, cities will be enabled to address challenges of rapid urban urbanization, climate change, and inequality.

In February 2019, I traveled to Nairobi to facilitate a writeshop with the UN-Habitat team working on the GFCP. I facilitated the writeshop to identify and pull out key messages and reflections, evaluate the programme’s successes and challenges in its Strategic Development Phase, and to highlight concrete examples of sustainable urban development interventions in the participating cities.

Following the writeshop, I worked as lead author and editor for this report on the programme’s Strategic Development Phase (download the report from the Global Future Cities Programme website).
